At the Newberg Public Library, access to library services is important to us, and that includes our community who is unable to make it into the library.
In 2024, our Homebound Library Services expanded and library volunteers now deliver books, audiobooks and movies directly to those participating in our service. A short intake interview with a library staff member helps us figure out details of the service such as preferred formats and types of items, and if the person prefers to reserve items themselves, or if they prefer that to be left to library staff. If you know someone who would enjoy this free service, please reach out to the library.
For those with a print disability, including visual, physical and reading impairments such as dyslexia, library staff are also trained to provide referrals to the State Library of Oregon's Talking Book and Braille Library Service. This free service delivers items through the mail in the format best suited to the person, whether that's books to listen to or books to read in Braille or other formats.
In 2025, our Childcare Book Delivery Service enters its 19th year. This service began as a way to get fresh library books to childcares throughout Newberg each month. With a collection of books funded by the Library Foundation of Newberg, this service now reaches 15 locations thanks to deliveries from our library volunteers.
Additional outreach services include our TurnAround Book deliveries where discarded library books or donated gently-used books are reallocated around town to encourage literacy at locations like WIC, LOVE Inc., various Little Free Libraries, Yamhill Community Action Partnership, the Public Safety Building, A Family Place, and more. Turnaround books are also available when library staff visit the monthly Community Laundry Night at Loads of Hope with a storytime and free books.
If you can’t get to us, we will try to get to you. Have an idea for the library? Please let me know!
